Since March 2020, while most other activities were restricted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Society has produced regular Newsletters. These are sent to members via email.

The Society produces an Annual Bulletin containing write-ups of our outings and lectures, with other articles and reports of local wildlife sightings.

Past Bulletins are available below to download; each spring members receive a printed or electronic copy of the latest issue, which is uploaded to the website the following year.

Annual Bulletin 45 – 2020

The Society launched a journal, Proceedings & Transactions of the Dundee Naturalists’ Society, shortly before World War I; only two parts were ever published. As well as reports on Society activities, they include important articles on local ornithology, geology & fossils, archaeology and history:

For several years, early in its history, the Society published an Annual Report of Society activities. The first one printed was No. 4, covering 1876-77. Reports 4-12 (missing No. 11) have been scanned and are available on the Biodiversity Heritage Library at

To celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Society’s founding, the Society published an address given by its President, Frank W. Young, in 1895:

The Society formerly issued lists of plants and other wildlife sightings recorded on some of its excursions. A selection of old lists are given below. Today, observations like these are reported in our Annual Bulletin, and we also encourage members to submit wildlife records to the relevant recording scheme.

The Society produced a guide leaflet to walks at Balkello Community Woodland, on the slopes of the Sidlaw Hills north of Dundee, in 2000:
